So you might be wondering, why is my website on the third page of a Google search? Why can’t I get any views on my super interesting article about HTML tables vs. Div layouts? Well here’s the thing, Google uses a complex formula to determine what makes it to the top of any search, and unfortunately for us, Google has this formula locked up in some vault away from us laymen. However, there is still hope. There are several tactics anyone can use to help optimize search engine results and improve your SEO ranking from an inbound marketing company in Brooklyn.
1. Title is key
Now this might seem obvious to some but titles are so important. Google seems to factor the title tag into your search engine ranking, so you might as well make it something special. You’re gonna want to stand out from the rest, but at the same time include some important keywords that you want to promote. This is one of the important factors when attempting to successfully use inbound marketing to your advantage. Simply put, if your title is shit, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage in the search engine results
2. Use keywords, but don’t be so obvious
You have to use keywords in order to get the best SEO ranking. There’s no getting around it. If you want people to visit your page and get to the top of Google, you have to use certain phrases or words that would draw people to your site. However, what’s really important here is that you enter them seamlessly. Nobody’s going to want to read an awkward “cut and paste” article where you haphazardly stick your key phrases as if they’re some forced product placement in Hollywood movies (we get it Adam Sandler, Happy Gilmore really likes eating Subway sandwiches because of the quality). So make sure you don’t force it, this will help you in the long run when trying to market your content.
3.Alt text
Whenever you use images in your blog (which you should always do, refer to step 5) you have to use alt text to describe your images, maybe even throwing in some keywords. The google search engine is essentially blind, and won’t be able to recognize the image you use. It can use alt text as a factor in your search engine result, and it’s important to have your image recognized, especially if you’ve paid top dollar for the rights of that image.
4. Make your links worthwhile
We’ve all seen the spam links “Click here if you want to improve your sex life” or “How to make six figures while working from home”. While you might think this will help your search engine optimization, it really doesn’t. Google actually factors hyperlinks on sites pretty strongly on a search engine result. By making a standard “click here” link, it’s not helping your SEO results. Put something that people will click naturally based on the content. For example, here is a smiling baby using a giant dog as a pillow (trust me it’s cute). If you use keywords in your link, even better. You want to be able to make these links as effective as possible because it will ultimately improve your SEO ranking get your content closer to the top of Google. If you need help building links, be sure to contact a marketing agency.
5. Make it look Sexy
Finally, as shallow as this might seem, you’re gonna want to make your article and site look aesthetically pleasing. If it looks smooth and clean, people will be more likely to visit and stay on your site. Images are important, if you have an attractive image on your site, more people are going to be willing to visit and stay on your site. If you look at the sites that utilize SEO tactics effectively and are on the top of Google searches, you’ll notice that many of these sites really look good. There is a correlation to popularity and the design of the site, so by improving the look of your article and site, it can only help your SEO results.
